Members of Campus Action on Food (CAF), a Dalhousie University student organization, fed over 50 hungry students at a free food serving in the lobby of the Dalhousie Student Union Building on December 1, 2009. The food serving raised awareness about a popular petition to be presented to the DSU Council on December 2. The petition, signed by 1570 Dalhousie students, calls on the DSU to end corporate contracts that contain confidentiality clauses.
Students hope to put pressure on DSU Council to end what they’ve called ’secret contracts’, and to push for a popular vote at the upcoming DSU Annual General Meeting (AGM), scheduled for March, 2010.
At the December 2 Council meeting, DSU Council voted to send the petition to their Board of Operations to study the feasibility of discontinuing contracts with confidentiality clauses.
